Flore Edharz

Flore Edharz, a Franco-German artist born in 1991 in Paris, is fascinated by the printed image, which she regards as an inexhaustible source of inspiration. She is drawn to all kinds of paper: details from Renaissance paintings, contemporary photographs and printed patterns. She immerses herself in images just as one might plunge one’s hands into an ocean of past memories. Like painters, she chooses her colours, shapes and subjects. She loves to rummage through books and magazines, which she collects in a large bookcase dedicated to her cut-outs. After a meticulous selection process, she arranges the pre-cut elements. Her collages are not constrained by existing images: they have their own identity.

With paper, she creates a world, movement and a form of poetry. She enjoys arousing curiosity, fuelling mystery and playing with the intimate. Inspired by the calm of Japanese aesthetics, the surprise of Belgian surrealism and the clarity of German neo-realism, she leaves it to the viewer to guess the origin of the fragments of the past. Nothing is set in stone, for her paper assemblages are in constant flux. For her, collage is a game with the absurd and the unexpected.

The artist works in series in order to unfold several stories around a single theme. She is drawn to the use of existing materials, to books that have already been printed and deserve a second life, to the beauty of the intimate, to the joys of love and friendship, and to the mysteries and poetry of everyday life.

She has been exhibiting since 2019, mostly in Belgium and France.

Her works feature in several private collections.
