Collection: Laura Mateare

Laura Mateare is a Franco-Italian artist living in Paris.
Holder of a doctorate in general medicine in 2023 at Paris-Saclay, she writes a thesis entitled «The benefits of art exposure in preventing burnout among general medicine residents in Ile-de-France», which was awarded a bronze medal. She is developing her artistic practice in parallel.

According to the artist, there is a balance between transparency and opacity that allows light to draw in darkness. After having explored many artistic techniques, Laura Mateare chooses to combine her childhood passions: painting on silk and embroidery. She finds great freedom in creating her supports, sometimes mixing linen and cotton with silk. These blends associated with embroidery allow him to transcribe the relief of the life that surrounds us.

She aspires to create a living work. Depending on the time of day, the play of lights draws shadows behind the canvas. Inspired by the Italy of her parents, the flowers of Yasmine Mei, the poetry of Baudelaire, the overripe fruits of the market, the empty chairs waiting for an encounter, it’s a sweetness of life that the artist seeks to immortalize through her paintings.
